The Pays de Famenne region, a destination for sport, nature and leisure activities
The Famenne region, the gateway to the Ardennes!
In Belgium, at the heart of Wallonia, lies an area called the Pays de Famenne. It comprises six communes brimming with natural wealth. The Pays de Famenne boasts the varied landscapes of the Condroz, Famenne and Ardennes regions. The thread running through this area is the ‘Calestienne’, a limestone strip in the basins of the Lesse, the Lhomme and the Ourthe rivers. This is one of the richest in Belgium and in Europe in terms of karst phenomena and has earned the territory UNESCO recognition as the Geopark Famenne-Ardenne.
And that’s not all. The region abounds in natural wealth, with remarkable tourist attractions. Worth mentioning are the caves of Han-sur-Lesse and Durbuy, the smallest town in the world with its picturesque little streets and its feudal heritage. This is also a region where life is good. Here you can savour a Rochefort Trappist or enjoy a local beer on a terrace, order a regional dish in a good brasserie or maybe pamper yourself with a gourmet menu in a starred restaurant!
